LaRoche Scholar | Founding Cohort 2026
Emory Thorn was born and raised in the Overbrook section of Philadelphia, where he developed an early passion for mathematics and STEM while attending St. Rose of Lima Elementary School.

He continued to cultivate that passion at St. Joseph’s Preparatory School, where he embraced the school’s mission of becoming “a man for and with others.” During his time at the Prep, Emory distinguished himself both academically and through service—participating in multiple academic and community-focused organizations, tutoring peers in math and physics, and launching a summer math clinic in a local barbershop to make STEM more accessible within his community.

Emory is a member of the National Honor Society and has earned multiple academic honors recognizing his commitment to excellence and leadership.

He will attend Drexel University as a mathematics major, where he plans to pursue a career at the intersection of data, research, and social impact. His long-term goals are to use quantitative analysis to bring greater awareness to critical social issues and to expand access to STEM education for underrepresented communities.

Emory credits his success to the unwavering support of his mother, the brotherhood of St. Joseph’s Preparatory School, and the mentors and educators who have continuously challenged and inspired him.
